Search can’t find my blog post?

Hi I posted an entry today 7-18-9. When I searched later for the exact title of my post, I can’t find it? I thought the search function here on wordpress returns the latest entry at the top? How’s this work again?

We can’t really give you any info without a link to the blog, starting with http. We ALWAYS need the link in order to answer questions.

I also want to clarify that the search function I am referring to is the wordpress site search, not the one within my blog.

If you type in poem about violence wordpress will search for the phrase and also for each individual word. If you put quote marks before and after the phrase, wordpress will search for that specific phrase: “poem about violence” .

yes, I tried the quotes that morning I first posted, and nada. Today, using the quotes, it showed up on the list of two entries. An entry without any of those words in the blog title, dated june something was the first on the list, and mine, posted july 20 with that exact title was second
How does the wordpress search function find or not find an exactly worded title of a blog?

The search thing here is not perfect by any means. For how it actually works, I would suggest contacting staff directly and give them this example and see what they have to say. http://support.wordpress.com/contact/

thesacredpath: I did as you suggested and asked the staff, and was told to put quotes around it, which didn’t actually answer my question, but until I have more time, will have to do.
Now I have a new one. I put the search widget on my blog, and tried to search within my own blog for a poem that I tagged: poem about compassion. This widget could not even find my own tagged poem. What is up with that? Does the search function even look at tags anymore? Is this addressed somewhere else on the forum?
If the search function doesn’t work, why am I wasting my time on tags?

Truthfully I don’t know what the search box on the blogs looks for. try searching for a short phrase from the poem.

The tags get picked up by all major search engines, not by the WP.com search. They’re very important for this reason.

raincoaster, you are so right. When I used “poem about violence” in quotes for google, it was number 1 on the page!
that is so weird that my own widget can’t find it. I will have to follow up with the staff about that.
