search engine – blog only partly indexed?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
I migrated my blog from Blogger 2 weeks ago and did a search on google today of my blog title plus “wordpress”. The only things to come up were the About page and the images from my posts. I was wondering if the individual posts would eventually get indexed, or is that all it’s going to list?

    Thanks!

    Hi @khrome,

It typically takes 4-6 weeks (or more) for a search engine to index new sites. Take a look at this Support page and this blog post for more information, including ideas and resources on search engine optimization.

You can also check whether your site is allowing search engines to index it.

To do this, go to your /wp-admin site (your site + /wp-admin). In the left hand bar, hover over Settings, and click on Reading in the submenu that appears. On the Reading page, there will be a Site Visibility section – make sure you have “Allow search engines to index this site” selected.

    Hope that helps!

Welcome to WordPress! To give you a quick overview answer in addition to those deeper articles kindly posted by @jennysihua, which you should definitely check out, yes, the search engines will slowly index the rest of your site pages.

They work off links while indexing the web so that’s why sometimes only certain pages are indexed right away.

@jennysihua and @gregariousbadger – thank you for your replies. Yes, I had read the documentation and it wasn’t clear whether that was all that was going to be indexed or not. Thanks so much for clarification! :-)
