Search Engine – no description found
-
When I search for my site, and add enough key words so it actually finds it, I see this message in the results: We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us.
1) What do I have to do to get search engines to show a tagline I’ve put in my site?
2) In my free WP plan, is it possible to make the site more “findable” by search engines?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You might consider installing a SEO plug-in? I found this one: https://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/
Or Yoast’s WordPress SEO plugin.
I also found this answer:
The site description information is stored in two places in the <head> of your site. In the “title” and the meta tag for “description”.
You manually add this information as straight info or using the WordPress template tags. All the information for both methods is in the article on the Codex:

re: http://tarotclearly.wordpress.com/re: HTML and metadata access
There is no metadata access for us wordpress.COM bloggers and we cannot insert any code into the <header>. This is a multi-user blogging platform. Our blogs share a common architecture. We bloggers cannot access metadata on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. Note http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/03/22/seo-on-wordpress-com/
What’s important are the keywords in the site title and the tagline:

No. Customize allows you to edit fonts, colors, and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup or PHP code. If you require this functionality, please consider moving your blog to a web host that supports theme code modifications. You can read more about why here http://support.wordpress.com/code/, and find a suitable host here http://get.wp.com/hosting/

OK. Thanks for the answers. I understand I can’t use the analysts options because I’m not paying.
As for what I can do, I understand I can change the Site Title, and the Site Tagline. I read the link to advice on stuffing the tag line with good search engine tags, but – adding anything to the tagline will make it appear on my home page … I added keywords (the keyword tool is great) and now they are on my home page. But I don’t want search tags there … would rather they were hidden.

Also, if there was an answer for this: “When I search for my site, and add enough key words so it actually finds it, I see this message in the results: We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us.” — I didn’t understand it. I still see the same message today when searching though I’ve got text in the title and tagline fields. Is this also a limitation of free blog sites?

Hi folks! @elemental369, I’ll help you first. Your site is just two days old, and it takes a little while for search engines to index your site. We have more details here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/Don’t worry though, you won’t need plugins and what not. Since your site is managed, we’re taking care of the technical end of things for you. Just focus on writing and your site will pick up some steam soon. This article may help too:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-more-views-and-traffic/And @timethief’s advice here is good, too. The meta description is set by your site’s tagline in some cases or by the content in others. Just keep writing and give it some time.

@forevermelody, thanks for trying to help.. I’m really hoping you don’t feel too discouraged. WordPress.com (the service) is based on WordPress.org (the software) but they’re different in the same way a restaurant is not the same thing as a recipe.
Folks won’t be able to add plugins here, and I know the regular forum volunteers here (@timethief) spend a lot of effort trying to clear that up for people.
We have some details here that may help: http://get.wp.com
You’d be welcome to continue helping out here or at the WordPress.org forums.
I’m going to go ahead and close this thread. Cheers!
