Search engine results?
-
Hi there fellow friends,
I don’t quite know how to word this question out, but I’m going to try my best. When I used to be at Live Spaces, often people will enter a search and my blog is enlisted as a result. Whenever they click on my link, it takes them straight to the blog post which I’ve spoken about that contains the word which was searched. (OK. I hope you guys are able to follow me here)
Now… comparatively to WordPress.com, whenever a search is done regarding a certain topic, for example at Google, my blog is still enlisted a result, with the word searched on the Google page. However, when one clicks on my link, it takes them to my index page… and not the blog post which contained their searched word.
Could anybody explain to me why is that such in WordPress… and well, is there anything that can be done to improve this? Thanks!

Puresecrets, please give us the link for your index page. That could be one of any number of pages and we need to see which you mean. Also, do you mean Search WordPress.com Blogs search, or the search on your own individual blog? Because they do differ.
spiderweb, do you have a WordPress.com blog? I”m not seeing one listed under your name.

raincoaster, what do you mean link to my index page? shouldn’t it be the one under my name : http://puresecrets.wordpress.com
Nope.. not search wordpress.com blogs search.
let me give an example. saaaayy my friend searches on google “blue diamond” and my blog is enlisted as a result of it because e.g. I blogged about blue diamond in Jan 2008. The content and word “blue diamond” is shown on the google search result page, but when she clicks on my link from google, she is brought to my index page (as given above) which shows my latest blog post, which has nothing to do with ‘blue diamonds’ at all!
I hope this example helps. lol.

oh. and for some reason, i uploaded a new picture for my sidebar.. and it’s taking a very long time to refresh. perhaps somebody can help me here (i had this problem before but did not realize i had to wait sometime for the new link to my new picture to take effect.. but this time it’s taking a very loooong time to refresh).
If you go to my blog..the picture in my sidebar of a book. it’s too big. I’ve uploaded a new image with the correct dimensions. But it’s still showing the old image with the bigger dimensions. It was working well a few days back. not sure why it reverted to its initial size again!

I thought you could have meant the category page, or the archive page, or really any number of things. Thanks for the clarification.
And yes, I’ve noticed the same on my blog. I believe it’s universal for WP.com blogs at this time.
Annoying in the extreme and I am not sure what, if anything, we can do about it. We COULD try talking to Google, or we could just blow bubbles; they have an equal chance of getting this fixed, in my experience.
The image problem? Sidebars are cached and may take some time to refresh, and also we’ve had some image server blips lately. If it’s still happening tomorrow, contact staff during office hours. And if you do, tip them off about the Google issue as well. Can’t hurt.

raincoaster! I thought you left since there was no reply from you! Phew. Unfortunately for me.. I live in Malaysia and never seem to be able to contact support during their office hours. Whenever I click support, it’s always closed. lol.

I did leave. I’m in and out all the time.
Sulz lives in Malaysia and she seems to get through to them. Either stay up late or wake up early:
