Search engines

I built my website to promote the release of my book, Lucky Life. Perhaps I don’t understand something important, but why are my customers unable to find my website when conducting a Google search? Shouldn’t the words ‘Kirk Brocker Lucky Life’ used in a Google search come up and then allow them to come to my WordPress site? Help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi,
First of all, go to Settings -> Reading and make sure Site Visibility is set to “Allow search engines to index this site”.

Unfortunately, Google can’t guarantee that any page will consistently appear in their index or appear with a particular rank.

Here is an excerpt from https://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/ that may help you:

Why isn’t my blog in Google?
WordPress.com automatically sends notifications to Google with every post and page update. The search engines can take 4-6 weeks or more to add any new sites. Connecting a Google account with verified site ownership through Google’s search console may help register your site for inclusion. Please contact Google for more information.

  • Hi There,
Here is a great support site that can give you some information regarding Search Engine Optimization with a WordPress.com site.

It can provide you with some information and some ways you can increase your rank.

    Hope this helps!
    Thanks

  • @jenlynnemc That’s a good article. Thanks!

Thanks for your kind help. I’m new to this and seem to bump into this sort of thing at every turn. When I went to the Settings tab, I discovered that under the “Primary Site” tab there was a “no site found” note. What does this mean? Have I been working for a week on a site that is now not available to the public? Perhaps I’ve done something because earlier this week I looked at my site from both my phone and a different computer.
    Any help is welcome. Kirk

  • Hi Kirk,
I’m not really sure how to help you so I’m going to add the tag “modlook” to the thread. This will alert one of the staff to assist you.

    Hi Kirk,

Search engines can take 4-6 weeks to detect new sites and content changes such as new posts and pages. kirkbrocker.wordpress.com was only registered a week ago, so I don’t think there is anything wrong. It’s perfectly normal for it to take some new time for a new site to appear on search engines.

Have I been working for a week on a site that is now not available to the public?

I’ve doubled checked your site’s privacy settings and they are Public — which means it is visible to both people and search engines :)

Both of the links @jenlynnemc staff-frank sent you are really useful. This is another great resource too:

I discovered that under the “Primary Site” tab there was a “no site found” note.

Can you send me a link to the page where you are seeing this tab and I’ll take a look?

Come back to me if you have any questions.
