Hey there @antiaginglady!
It takes time for search engines to index new sites. There is no way to control when your site will get picked up by a search engine or how high it ranks.
From the WordPress.com support doc on search engines:
Why isn’t my blog in Google?
WordPress.com automatically sends notifications to Google with every post and page update. The search engines can take 4-6 weeks or more to add any new sites. Connecting a Google account with verified site ownership through Google’s webmaster tools may help register your site for inclusion. Please contact Google for more information. Also, make sure your site is not set to “Private”.
From your Admin dashboard, go to Settings -> Reading and find the “Site Visibility” box. Make sure the option is selected that says, “Allow search engines to index this site.”
I hope this helps. Have a great day!
