Search engines returning an error message when going to my blog (domain mapping issue?)

  • Unknown's avatar

I was unable to register a susanrushton wordpress account as the name was already taken. I paid to buy susanrushton.net via WordPress instead.

WordPress issued susanrushtondotnet.wordpress.com as my permanent address, but I can’t use this!

I went into my domains and set susanrushton.net as my primary address. However if you type this address into a search engine, you get a variety of warnings that this is not the real address. My friends are seeing these too. The Firefox warning is particularly dire and I felt worried accepting the site, even though I knew it was my own.

I am sure I’m doing something wrong. There is an Edit button next to susanrushton.net in my domains, but nothing happens when I click on it.

Please help! I’m loving WordPress so far except for this.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I’m not sure what you mean by “typing this address in a search engine”, but perhaps you are trying to access your site using a secure connection, like https://susanrushton.net/ (note the “s” in “https”)?

That will indeed trigger a message because the security certificate is issued to WordPress.com and not SusanRushton.net.

If you go to http://www.susanrushton.net you should not get any errors.

Apologies if I misunderstood the issue!

You’re right, I am typing the name in and not noticing that the address being searched for starts with https.

I really appreciate your help. I can have a happy evening now.

    Thanks so much!
