Search field

    Dear all,

I am wondering why the search field on my wordpress page works when I am logged in as admin but not for visitors of the page. Does anyone have an idea why this is the case?

The pages are password protected – might this be the reason. However, even if I remove the password from some of the posts, visitors can´t find the content.

    Thanks in advance
    Karin

Hi there, what’s the address of the site you need help with? Once we know that we can point you in the right direction for support.

Keep in mind that this support forum assists users with free websites hosted on the WPcom platform. WPcom (where we are ) and WP are separate entities with different documentation and support forums. More information about the differences can be found here: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

In case you need help with a site using the open source WP software, head over to https://wordpress.org/support/ where you’ll find documentation and users who have more experience with the software you are using. If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums you can register one on the top of that page.

Hello again, thanks for providing a link.

    You mentioned :

why the search field on my wordpress page

but I cannot seem to locate any search utility on your site. Can you provide a direct link to where you see the search box on the public facing side of your site?

As the site admin you will see all pages and posts regardless of whether their Visibility is set to Private or Public or as Password protected pages and posts.

I do see a place to enter a password on each and every page and post on your site. If all your site’s pages and posts are password-protected, there wouldn’t be any search results to display to the public facing side of your site.

Are you interested in having only registered or invited users see the content of your website? If so, you might consider changing your entire site Visibility to Private rather than public. Keep in mind that passwords are only as secure as the people who use them and can be shared.
