  For those of us who are readers only – is there a way to search for a specific topic?

  There really isn’t a search function that works wordpress-wide, however if you go to http://wordpress.com/tags/ there is a pretty good list of tags people have used and you can click on a tag title to get a listing of posts in that category.

  This FAQ describes how you can use Google to search wordpress sites for topics though and it works quite well: http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/02/23/search-using-tags/

  As an example: “site:wordpress.com pottery” brings back 44,100 hits in Google.

  You can also use the same procedure in Google’s blogsearch engine at: http://blogsearch.google.com/

  You can get a free forum off the internet from a 3rd party site and link to it from your wordpress.com blog.
