Search Function on Pages

I do understand that the Pages and Posts are different.
I noticed that the Search function is quiet handy. But later found that it only searches the posts and not the Pages.
When I googled for it, found a handful of Search Plugin, but I think they were only for sites using wordpress and not for those hosted by wordpress.com.
My Query is is there a way to search across pages on the blogs(sites) hosted here on wordpress.com. Is there any sidebar component for the same. Or is there any plan for one like that ?!?!?!

    Help greatly appriciated.

Note: My blog is still under development. yet to complete it.

Been discussed before a few times…

Pages were designed to be completely seperate from the Posts (I think you understand that from your first line.) and that’s probably why they’re not included in the search scheme.

Matt and staff has not discussed the matter in the past IIRC so I’m leaning to it not happening. (ie You have to convince the designer that Pages should be included and he’s already stated that they’re not. You could convince him to change his mind though and he has stated he is open to new ideas.)

Best way to get around that with what we have here is make a Post about the Page you’ve just written with the general purpose of what’s included and a link to it. At least that Post will show up in a search.

    Hope this helps,

    hi drmike
    Tx for that reply.
True.I do accept the fact that pages are separate from the posts. But I felt that the “Page” Concept was really cool and had opened up different perspectives for blogging …
I see that as one great way of differentiating wordpress from other blogging services. [s i do love the existing features and that would still have me hooked to wordpress]

But was just thinking that if we have this facility of searching across pages would add a different dimension to it …

    Tx.

Not a problem. To be honest if it’s something that you really need, there is a plugin available to allow Pages to be searchable but you would have to be hosted elsewhere to be able to use it.

It’s strange that you mention that allowing this would make it apart from the other services as the other blog systems I’m familiar with (ie drupal and PHPNuke for example) already do this.

I did notice the plugin , but I was wondering if it would come with the ease of wordpress.com , rather than me hosting it. Its true that when the site is hosted by me there is lot of flexibility, but again more effort is required :)
I was aware of phpnuke and did have a look at drupal (its good). but I was not able to locate any hosting option , which means more work :)

Wish someday we get the search across pages functionality (in a side bar component) right here at WordPress.com

Tx for the reply drmike, have a good day.
