Search Only Posts?

Is there a way for the search function to only search posts and not pages? I’d rather not have my pages show up in search results.

I don’t think so, at least not on WP.com. If you were to self-host there might be a plugin you could use but I don’t think it’s possible with the level of access we have on our blogs.

Thanks. In the old days, WordPress.com searches only included posts. Guess things have changed since then. Frankly, there should be an option to include pages or not.

Search does not search in the comments either. Nor does it search in the names of authors. And I believe – from posts elsewhere – that it can only order results in chronological order, not by relevance.

It would be really useful if the search widget had checkboxes for ‘Posts’, ‘Pages’ and ‘Comments’ (and, ideally, for ‘AuthorName’ too!) – and if it had them all checked by default!

I think one of the reasons for recurrent posts in these forums, asking how to include Google Custom Search in a wordpress.com site (which is impossible… I’ve checked!) is due to the above limitations.
