Search results display in wrong template

  • Unknown's avatar

I have some static pages on my blog which I have designed to use the full width of the page, by setting the template to use for that page to ‘Full-width, no sidebar’. However if I then *search* for that page, the search result comes back on a page which has the ‘Default Template’, *with* a sidebar; which breaks my static page quite badly!

So… to fix this I’d need to force the search results page to always use the ‘Full-width, no sidebar’ template? Which would causes a less severe break, as a search term is likely to throw up results both for static (full width) pages and blog postings (with sidebar); blog postings coming up with the sidebar missing is not as big a problem one of my static pages coming up with a sidebar.

Any ideas? Is there a way to control the template of the search results page?

We need a link to the blog please.

I’m going to paste the below in here, because from what you are saying, I have a feeling your blog may be self-hosted on a third-party hosting service and not hosted here at the wordpress.COM hosting service.

Sorry, you are in the wrong forum and need to head over to http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG are supported.

These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently and our answers typically will not work for you.

If you do not know the difference, see this support document: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ .

Thanks but no, I really do mean wordpress.com, I get the difference. I didn’t post a link to the blog because it isn’t public yet, but assuming there may be admins reading this who can look at it anyway, it’s tedthetrumpet.wordpress.com. Also, when you submit a posting to the forums there is a dropdown which says ‘which blog are you posting about’, which… I guess does nothing.

This is for the most part a volunteer forum which means the people responding do not have access to your account details or a list of your blogs. That is why we ask for it. The URL of the blog is not automatically put into a thread here by the system since some are sensitive to that sort of thing wanting to remain very low key and so don’t want their URL to appear in a public forum.

Since I don’t know how you have things set up or even what theme you are using, all I can do it tell you to contact staff directly at http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ .

Staff do monitor the forums, but that is no guarantee that they will see or comment on this thread.

Ok, thanks, I think I’ll take this one up with support rather than on the forum.

You’re welcome. Since we can’t see the blog, that would be best.
