Search Results; Why do my blogs not show up?
-
I have a blog called Your Future, Your Past and in almost every blog I use our domain name Family Forest(tm. Neither of these show up in the search results.
For instance on “Family Forest Project” 2 search resuklts come up but neither on of them are my blog but others talking about our project.I have tried other names that would be in the blogs and they do not show up either. Is there a secret to WordPress’ search??

By the way, you should keep the total number of categories and tags to 12 or less. With so many tags your posts can look like yours is a spamming-blog to search engines.

First off, wordpress.COM implemented a limit on the number of tags + categories (total) due to abuse and tag spamming (leave it up to a few to mess it up for all of us). To show up on the global tags pages, you can have a maximum of 12 tags + categories on posts. Examples: 3 categories + 9 tags or 5 categories + 7 tags. Again, this was due to people trying to game the system. In one example mentioned by staff, one person was using the same 100 tags on all their posts regardless of whether they were appropriate or not.

Hi thesacredpath!
That is not the only problem the OP has, though…
The tags and cats just link back to his/her homepage. A technical glitch. -
@familyforest, go to settings > privacy. Is your blog set to
“I would like my blog to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Sphere, Technorati) and archivers”
or is it set to
“I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors”
If the second, then your blog will not show up on the global tags pages, and will not be indexed by search engines. Only the first selection will allow you to show up on the global tags pages.

You’re welcome, and I’m not even sure that is the problem. Typically when the tags/categories go local though it means it is set to the second one under settings > privacy, or the blog has been marked “mature” but I doubt that is the problem.
-
And actually I just looked at their robots.txt file and it says,
User-agent: *
Disallow: /That leads me to believe it is the privacy setting although the number of tags and categories are still going to have to be reduced down to the limit even with the right setting under privacy.

Thank you all so much!
I have changed my privacy setting as you suggested and will limit my tags and categories.
Now how long will it take before the blog and the postings should show up in the search results.
I just tested it and I am still getting the same results but I imagine just like with Google
it takes a day or two before it will work. -

I still see that when I search for “Family Forest” I only have one blog, my most recent one show upp in the search results.
See this is the last page for the search but its weird how some results are listed here.
http://en.search.wordpress.com/?q=%22Family+Forest%22&page=6Any one have any ideas why this happens?
Thanks!
