Search showing limited results
-
I’ve just noticed that running a search in my blog provides only a selection (I presume the most recent) of results. For example, I know that there are many, many entries with the name ‘Connor’. But only seven are shown, and there is no ‘Next’ or ‘More’ link.
Can anyone tell me if this this a bug, or is it by design in WP, or has it to do with the template (K2 in this instance)? -
Strange! I never noticed that the K2 theme does this! It is definetely theme based as the other themes I use don’t do this. Maybe send in a feedback to the staff about this and see if they have some thoughts on it.

That is strange. Looking at the SVN for the wp.com themes show where the call is made. Rather weird…
-
I’ve sent feedback, but I think you’re right trent. I changed theme and there was a ‘previous’ link at the bottom of the search results page that is missing in k2.
What I’m wondering now is how receptive k2 are to adjusting the theme, or do I just have to choose another? -
-
But I got a message from Mark to say that it was a theme problem, implying that there was nothing WP could do about it.
-
Then maybe try changing themes just temporarily and see if that works. You can switch it back later if it doesn’t.
-
I changed theme to neo-Sapien, which looked great, not least because it’s in the club colours ;-), and, yes, the search works perfectly. But the theme layout isn’t right, and I really like the k2 look.
So I’m wondering if, as an interim solution, it’s possible to put a Google site search box on the sidebar. -
Nope, google widgets are not an option at all here. You can provide a text link to Google, though.
-
I mis-stated the position a couple of posts back. In fact, Mark asked me to submit a Support (as opposed to feedback) request, saying the issue could be dealt with faster that way.
Hopefully, this may mean a quick resolution.
On the Google link, does anyone know if it is possible to make it so that it refers to one’s own site only? -
No, that would require a form to do that.
And, considering that Google rarely indexs an entire site, you would probably have a worse outcome.
-
OK. Thanks for all the guidance on this. I’ve compromised for now, posting a note explaining the problem and providing the option of a Google search.
-
I stand corrected. I was thinking something else:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site%3Abohsnews.wordpress.com&btnG=Google+SearchThat will give you a listing of what Google has indexed for your site. Do note that you have to tell folks to leave in what’s in the search bar. That bit keeps it focused to your site.
/me needs coffee…

Oh right — thanks! I’d got around it by putting up a remote form, but that’s a much neater way to do it!
