Search sometimes not displaying all of post
-
Hi,
I am getting erractic search results displays, compared to what I would expect anyway. When I do a search not all of the contents of all posts are displayed.
Each post has three sections:
1/ Live Recording link.
2/ Artwork.
3/ Details – collapsible details.e.g. Entering “1984” in the search box in the left menu:
https://cdartwork.wordpress.com/category/jesus-and-mary-chain/?s=1984
This does not show all 3 sections for all posts. Some do but not all. The ones that do show the Live Recording section only but not the other 2 section, do not contain the link for it, only the text. If you click on the heading for the ones that are not displayed correctly, then the complete post is shown correctly, with all 3 sections displayed, and the link is working fine also,
e.g.
https://cdartwork.wordpress.com/2025/08/13/jesus-and-mary-chain-1984-10-24-london-mp3/Can you help me to find out how to fix this so that all details for each post are shown in the search results.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, it looks like the search results changed sometime between your May 2025 and July 2025 posts on the search results page for 1984. I’m really not sure why that would be so I’ve gone ahead and flagged your post for staff attention and assistance.

Hi @johne3065!
I looked at the difference between two posts, one showing the images, and one that does not, and I found what was different.
Under the post settings for the posts showing the images, the format was set to “Audio,” while the ones that were not were set to “Standard.” I tested switching the post format for one of the ones set to standard to audio; it showed the images in the search results.
When you edit a post, you can get to the post settings by clicking the “Settings” icon in the top right (near the Save button.) You’ll see a sidebar on the right with two tabs (Post and Block.) Click the Post tab, and you’ll see details about the post, including the post format option.
Hope that helps!

Thank you very much for checking and providing this answer to the problem. I have made the changes to the remaining posts and all media is now shown in the search results.
It is strange that leaving the format as Standard does not show the media files. Is this a bug?
Thanks.

I’m glad to hear that worked! No, it’s not a bug. On certain classic themes, the post format dictates what content is displayed in summary form on search results.
Newer themes use a block-based template system that allows you to directly customize the search results template.
Not saying you need to switch your theme! You can continue to set the post format to Audio for your new posts. Just letting you know how classic themes differ from block themes in case you ever want to explore a redesign.

Okay, thanks for this. I have investigated changing to a block theme but didn’t know if I would be able to make it look like the current theme that I am using.

Hi @johne3065!
You’re welcome to take a look at different themes, and you can customize them to be more similar to your current theme. If you’re interested in switching to a block-based theme, we have a variety of them to choose from. Here are some you may be interested in browsing through: https://wordpress.com/themes/free/filter/subject:blog.
Some that stand out to me, based on your current site, would be the Retrospect theme or the Twenty Twenty-Five theme, for example!
We also have a support guide with more information on changing themes, here: https://wordpress.com/support/themes/changing-themes/. That being said, if you decide you’d like to stick with your current theme, you’re welcome to.
