Search widget no longer returns fixed pages – critical issue for my site!

My blog (tchidirectory.wordpress.com) has many fixed pages where I display ‘adverts’ for services members of my community group offer each other.

It has always been possible for users to type in a search term (e.g. ‘gardening’) and receive search results which directed them to any fixed pages where such services were being offered. But it no longer does that!

It appears that the search widget has been changed and now it only returns results that point to posts not fixed pages. This is terrible as the whole site has been designed around the search widget funcionality.

Any ideas what has changed or how I can change it back???

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. Do you have an example of a search that does not return a specific page?

I don’t have the link on hand right now but there is a thread in the Staff Questions forum from several days ago saying Staff are working on the WordPress.com search feature.

Yikes! sorry that I messed up your name above. :(

I asked because I just tried a search that, I know, will return a static page on my blog, and it worked.

About the name: meh, I’m used to it. Even the GoDaddy guy earlier today messed with my name :-P

In the interim you can use Google search:
Example search string (note there is no space following the colon and you can use any keyword in the place of “gardening”)
    gardening site:tchidirectory.wordpress.com
    search results > http://tinyurl.com/3sku7a9

    @airodyssey
I just did two search on my blogs for stuff I knew was found on static pages as well and I got the results I expected.

thanks all for a quick response. I was impressed to come home this evening and find so many responses!

I can’t explain it but today it is working again!

Cross my heart and hope to die – when I posted it was not working – don’t know why it is working now, but I’m pleased it is.

(@ airodyssey – On my site, search users might search fort ‘gardening’ if they wanted help with their garden – last night when I triesd this it only listed the posts, today it lists the fixed pages too – hurray!

OK, so for what my opinion is worth – it would be really useful to me (and other users I trust) if we could have an upgrade to the search widget that included checkboxes for posts, fixed pages and comments. That way we could decide which areas our users would get results from.

For me, I would love the search widget to return results from comments, which it currently doesn’t do – this is a pity, as I would love to use the comments on a page for my users to post their ‘adverts’. As it is they have to send them to me as feedback and I have to manually add them to directory pages. (This makes more sense if you check out my site: http://www.tchidirectory.wordpress.com – I think you will agree it is quite a novel use for wordpress!)
