searchable theme? server vs no server how does it work?
-
Hey there!
I found a theme I like but its not searchable through the dashboard…
On the theme’s official site is says
‘Before getting started, you’ll need a copy of WordPress running on a server. Most web hosts make it easy to get an installation up and running.’
Is this still the way to get other themes for wordpress; if so how do I do it?
Thanks for your time and help,
best
F.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

For WordPress.com blogs you can only use themes that you find in Appearance->Themes. You can also search them here (https://wordpress.com/themes/). My guess is that the theme you found is actually for a WordPress.org blog which is self-hosted.
WordPress.org themes cannot be used on WordPress.com blogs for security reasons. Here is a bit more on the differences between .com and .org. https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
At this point you can either find a WordPress.com theme you like or switch to a self-hosted WordPress.org blog

Here is the WordPress.com support doc that will walk you through how to move your blog to WordPress.org:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/Keep in mind that self-hosting means you are responsible for a lot of things that WordPress.com does automatically now. Such as backups. Also there are fees involved with self-hosting. Don’t know if either of those are an issue, just wanted to give you the heads up.
