searching availability of blog names

  I have been trying to create a new blog for the past couple days. I type in a name to see if it’s available. The “checking” icon indicates it is checking, but I have let it go twice now for 7 hours and it can’t come up with an answer if the name is available. I have tried different names, and still hours go by until I finally give up. Whats wrong with this?
