Searching email followers

On the Site Stats >> My Followers page, on the Email-only tab, there’s a text entry box at top right with a button next to it labeled “Search Followers”. If I type in one of the email addresses listed on the page and click the button, I get another page. The “@” sign has been removed from the search string and the message says:
Your search did not match any blog posts. Whoa.The search is not searching the list of email followers.
I used to be able to search to see if someone had already signed up as an email follower. Has that functionality been removed? If so, why is the button still there?
(There was a similar question in 2012 but it was closed with no reply.)
