Searching for Tags on Private Blog

    Hi there!

I recently took over a blog, which is used as sort of an intranet/news website for my company. My predecessors didn’t utilize categories or tags, but I’d like to introduce the concept as a way to make searching for posts easier. I post an average of 20-40 articles a month, so things can often get lost.

I’ve added categories for menu categorization, so posts are sorted, but I’d still like posts within menus to be searchable. I’ve tried a variety of things in the searchbar on my wordpress.com site, but nothing seems to work for pulling up tags, except that I can manually type “sitename.wordpress.com/tag/First-word/” to pull up appropriate tags. Not all my users are quite so internet-savvy, so that doesn’t really address my problem.

TLDR; How do I search for tags on my private WP site?

    Thanks very much!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The tags are not a part of the search on WP.com, whether public or private.

    Ah – I see.

Are there any alternatives that don’t involve using the tag cloud?

The WordPress.com search engine indexes post, pages, and comments content (body text). Unless entered as text in those contents, blog name, post titles, and post/comment author names are not indexed. http://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpresscom-search/

So if you do not want to use the Tag cloud widget then I think you may have reached a dead end.

You could create a manual tag widget in a text widget and make the links yourself, but it’s not searchable or dynamic. It’s just linear instead of cloud.

That’s unfortunate, but good to know.

Thanks very much, both of you, I appreciate the help!
