Searching my blog.

Hello! When using the Search function on my blogg [ http://penspinning.wordpress.com/ ] it doesn’t find any pages. Since my blog mainly is built on pages instead of posts this is very annoying, so I’m wondering if I can add keywords to each page so people searching for any of those keywords find those pages?

What a cool blog! I’m a pen spinner too but I had no idea there was official recognition for this pastime. I typed “pens” into your search box and even though you have a page by the exact same name it was a no go. I was pointed back at your last blog entry.
I’m wondering if you couldn’t make a keyword textbox for the sidebar as a temporary measure. I’m thinking you could link the page titles to the associated key words in the text box.
Also I’m on board when it comes to being able to assign categories/tags to pages just as we do to posts. I’d really like to see this feature introduced. Here’s an interesting thread http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=936&replies=21

I don’t really understand what use that would have… could you explain a bit deeper?

This was my thinking before I tried it out and it bombed.
I thought these are your pages:
    # Inserts
    # Pen Mod Tutorials
    # Pen Spinning Collabs
    # Pens
    # PenSpinning
    # Tricks
Then I thought: suppose you made a cumulative keyword list for all your pages. And suppose you put those key words which were individually linked back to the page titles into a text widget. Well, I thought that if a reader clicked on a linked key word in the text box in the sidebar he or she would then be on the page associated with it. However, I just tried a mini-dry run of this and found it was not workable because the same key words can apply to more than one page and you can only link each key word once.
I guess it’s just another day and another theory blown all to … [kingdom come. I’m sorry I led you off-base. Clearly we need to be able to assign categories to pages so the search boxes can be fully utilized for retrieval.

The search function will only search Posts, not Pages. That’s a design decision (and much discussed over on wp.org) of the creators of the WordPress software.

Best bet would be to send in a feedback with a suggestion to make Pages searchable but there’s not a whole lot that can be done here on this one.
