Searching your own site

I’ve noticed this a couple of times, so thought I’d finally ask the question. On the Admin menu bar on the right hand side is a search box with the prompt “Search WordPress.com” then two buttons: This Site and All Sites.

I have mentioned Ronan Keating a few times (i love a particular duet, Ronan & Paulini). Anyway, I wanted to find a post to grab the YouTube link and post it in a comment on another blog. I entered Ronan Keating in the searchbox, clicked “This Site” and nothing was found. The results page gives a “Related Tags” list on the right hand side. Sure enough, there was Ronan Keating as a tag. I clicked on that and eventually found my post.

I’ve searched “This Site” a few times and the content I know exists (I’ve just forgotten where) has not been found.

Any ideas? Anyone else having a similar issue?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Did you use the words “Ronan Keating” in the text of the post or the title? Youtubes don’t have much metadata for the blog to put into the search.

It was a tag on that particular post, but I have referred to him in the text of other posts – didn’t find them either. Never in a title.

I wasn’t expecting to find the post via the YouTube link, certainly not.

The internal site search doesn’t scan tags.

OK – that explains the tagged one, what about the ones where his name was in the body of the post text?

Well, my suggestion would be to use the searchbox built into the blog in the sidebar, not the one in the admin bar. Also, the longer your blog has been around, the more accurate the search.

Ok thanks Raincoaster. I think it was more my professional side than my WP user side trying to get to the bottom of this one!
