searchwordpress.com function is rubbish
-
so am i being really stupid or is the searchwordpress.com function totally useless? I search from ‘bamboo’. No results. Seriously how can there be no tags related to bamboo. I have one yet it does not come up. Am i missing something?
Obviously somethings work I tried various words, but it seems strange alot of things show up nothing? Is it just the case there are no posts tagged withthat particular word?

Pete,
This is the format for a Google search of wordpress.com blogs. You can simply replace KEYWORD or KEYWORD PHRASE with whatever and get instant results. Note there is no space following the colon.KEYWORD or KEYWORD PHRASE site:wordpress.com
Example: bamboo site:wordpress.com
Results > http://tinyurl.com/3dmcsrsNote the entry on the WordPress.com search here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpresscom-search/ and especially note:
Your blog is not very new. It can take a few days before new blogs are included in the search index. Brand new blogs might not have enough posts for us to accurately determine whether or not it’s spam.
Also, keep in mind that the search engine only indexes the body text of blog posts, pages, and comments. The blog name, post titles, and post/comment author names are not indexed.

thanks timethief. okay the google thing makes sense thats useful.
Auxclass yes im aware there are obviously blogs tagged as bamboo but the whole point was when i type in bamboo into the search section of the screen we are currently on I get no results. Why is this? im pretty new to the site and im getting familiar with it, so it might seem a bit dumb to experienced users.
You posting a link dosnt really help me, how did you get to that search result?
Cheers guys -
I just picked any global tag out of a post and went to it and then replaced the tag word with bamboo – mouse over the tags in your blog – depending on where the tags are some might be local and some global –
this is one of your tags from Aberdeen Review: http://en.wordpress.com/tag/aberdeen/ – it is from the “Aberdeen” at the bottom of the post.

I don’t use the “search WordPress” much but from some of the feedback I have seen in the Forum it could use a bit of improvement. Sometimes I will use Google and add “wordpress.com” in quotes to the search string to try and reduce the returns a bit.

@peterjgillies
You’re welcome. Like auxclass I don’t use WordPress.com seacrch much. I rely on Google. They excel when it comes to search as it’s their thing. lol :D
