Second blog
-
I have created a second blog with my existing WordPress.com account. It appears that I can only have one primary blog with this account. I have domain mapping but it re-directs to the first blog. How can I make this second blog primary to itself? Do I need to create a second WordPress account? If so, can I transfer the 2nd blog to that account?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can register multiple blogs under the same username account. Each one is a separate site with a separate .wordpress.com URL.
Domain mapping applies to a single blog only. -

Yes.

Yes. See the Moving a Blog support page.

Each username account is associated with a single associated email address, a single gravatar, and can have only one primary blog link to the username or display name.
1. Log out, clear your browser cache and cookies.

https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies2. Remain logged out and register a new username account with a different email address.
3. Transfer one of the blogs to the new username account.

To disassociate blogs currently registered under the same username accounts see here for step by step instructions http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/08/14/separate-username-accounts-separate-blogs/

Once you have done that you purchase a domain mapping upgrade for the blog you transferred.
All that changes when you are domain mapping is the URL and nothing else. The content stays exactly where it is. What domain mapping does its create a seamless transfer between the underlying .wordpress.com blog URLs to the domain URLs no matter where they are on the internet. Visitors who click the underlying .wordpress.com blog URLs will be seamlessly redirected to the exact same content under the domain URLs.
Please read Domains: Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from, and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.
See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/register-domain/See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
if you already have a website you don’t want to affect, and you want to add a blog to it under a subdomain (for example, blog.yourgroovydomain.com) see here http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/
After you do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

@musicdoc1
Understood. When I answer questions here I am supervising my business and running programs for my contracted work on 2 other computers, and there are times when the phone rings, or I need to quickly help others. That is why my comments are not always made in the same comment boxes. -
Many thanks for the information. I wish I had known that I needed to create a second account before creating the second blog. I tried researching it, but could find any documentation. I paid for domain mapping already. Will I have to cancel and repurchase with the new account?

You can transfer upgrades too https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#transferring-upgrades

@ austenprose,
I have domain mapping but it re-directs to the first blog.
I’m not sure what you mean by “re-directs to the first blog.” When?
I wish I had known that I needed to create a second account before creating the second blog.
You don’t need to create a second account to create a second blog. You could have a hundred (or more) blogs in one account. But you asked specifically how to let each of two blogs be “primary.” I quote,
How can I make this second blog primary to itself? Do I need to create a second WordPress account?
There can only be one “primary” website for any one WordPress.com account. So I stick with the answer I provided above. Have I misunderstood?

Hi @austenprose,
Just a note, it looks like you were also in touch through private email. I went ahead and closed that request in lieu of our conversation here. Please keep all further correspondence here!
To recap, you have two WordPress.com sites on the austenprose account:
austenprose.wordpress.com with two domains: austenprose.com & poldarkian.com
woodstoncottagepress.wordpress.com
I believe you’re trying to transfer the domain mapping upgrade for poldarkian.com to another blog you have listed under a different user account. If so, can you just reply back to confirm the user account and blog address you want this upgrade transfer to? I’ll move it right away!
-
Yes, I need the domain mapping upgrade for poldarkian.wordpress.com transferred to poldarkians.wordpress.com.
Many thanks.
From my experience and @timethief’s explanation, there can be only one primary blog per account. You can create multiple number of blogs under one account, but they all re-direct the visitor to the primary blog. I needed the new blog that I created to be it’s own site, not to just re-direct to the first one. My apologies if I was unclear. Thank you for your help.

Hi @thepoldarkian,
The confirmation will actually need to come from the austenprose account. Can you reply back here from that account to approve the transfer and indicate which blog you would like the domain poldarkian.com moved to (It’s unclear whether you want it moved to poldarkians.wordpress.com or poldarkian.wordpress.com)?
-
Thanks for your prompt replies. Sorry for the mix-up. Please move the domain upgrade poldarkian.com to poldarkian.wordpress.com.
Many thanks, LA

This should all be taken care of now! The user thepoldarkian should see the domain on their upgrades page here:
