second column background colour Twenty Ten design

    Hi
Is it possible to delete the second column on my site? I don’t blog and just use the site as a website, therefore categories, archives, blogs etc are obsolete. The only useful thing I currently have there is my email address and phone number, however, this is also stated on the ome page.

Also, I am wondering if I can change the background colour of the pages which are white to for example black? If so, can this be done for each individual page or does it take effect over all pages?

    Thanks for your help

    Hi there!

Is it possible to delete the second column on my site?

Sure! Open up a Page in the editor, for instance, 2014 Calendars. In the right-hand column, you’ll see a label for Page Attributes. Under Template, you’ll adjust your setting to One column, no sidebar. Then click to Update your change. You can do this on every page you’d like the adjustment.

Also, I am wondering if I can change the background colour of the pages which are white to for example black?

It appears as if you’ve already done this! If you have any other questions about such design adjustments, please let me know.

    I hope this helps. Cheers!

Thank you for getting back to me. It’s amazing how easy some things are once you know how to do it. Must admit I am a bit cautious as I don’t want to make any changes that I can’t undo.
Regarding the background query. You are right in that I have been able to change the background colour of where the pages sit, but I don’t know how (or if it it is possible) to change the colour of the actual page. For example, I think my photos would come out better on a black background. I have viewed some of the other (free) web styles but the black ones, like Piano Black, don’t have the photo across the top which I rather like. And I also like the idea of having the tabs under the photo – so a similar style to what I am currently using. Hope this all makes sense.
Look forward to hearing rou thoughts.

Hello there! It is indeed possible to turn the entire page black. However, you do need the Custom Design package in order to accomplish this:
    en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/

To make this change, you will need to adjust your CSS code. We can assist you with the code and teach you where to place it in your Customizer.

Do keep in mind that the rest of your site’s colors are chosen in order to look best against a white background, so all those hues would have to be adjusted, as well. This could be opening up a can of worms, but it’s worth it, if you think your site would look best this way.

Please let me know how you’d like me to proceed. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks!

OK, That’s good to know. Considering there is a bit of work involved in this change I may need to come back to it later. I assume there is a charge for this?

It is a $30 upgrade. You can do a trial of it, if you’d like. This could help determine if the purchase is worthwhile to you.

You can do this by clicking the link below:

Then, click Custom Design, and Try Now.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!
