Second domain mapping
-
Hello,
I have two domains. My current mapped domain is http://couponsgearbest.com and I just bought second one: http://couponsfromchina.com . I want to map second domain to my site AND redirect all links from first domain (couponsgearbest.com) to second domain (couponsfromchina.com).
For example when I go to this link:
https://couponsgearbest.com/2017/05/24/xiaomi-selfie-stick-active-coupon-price-gearbest-2/
then it should redirect me to:
https://couponsfromchina.com/2017/05/24/xiaomi-selfie-stick-active-coupon-price-gearbest-2/Is it possible to remove first domain and map second domain without paying additional $13?
CheersThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Are you planning to set up the redirect at your domain provider? If so, I can switch the domain connected to your plan, but you should be aware that if you do it this way we might not be able to redirect the links to specific posts.
A better option would be to connect the second domain to your site as well with a new mapping upgrade, and then set the new domain as primary. Then all other domains on the site will redirect tot he new one automatically.

All the links have to work. I think the only way is as you described – I have to buy new domain mapping so old links will also work.
Another question – in a few months I’m gonna remove first domain (couponsgearbest.com). Will I be able to remove it and then pay only for personal plan with one mapped domain? -
By remove do you mean that domain will be cancelled? Once you’ve added the mapping, let me know and I can link the new domain to your plan instead of the current one. That way you’ll be able to cancel the current domain mapping once the domain itself is also removed.
Note that at that time all redirects will stop working – it’s only possible to keep redirecting a domain for as long as you own it.

I just bought new domain mapping and set it to primary. I will let you know about old domain removal probably in new year, because old links have to work (redirect to new domain).
Site doesn’t work ATM, but I think it should start working in a few hours, right?
Thanks -
How long can DNS update take? It’s 2.5 hours now.

I’ve linked couponsfromchina.com up with your plan.
It can take up to 72 hours for name servers to update, but usually it’s much faster than that. The new domain is already working for me, so see if clearing your browser cache makes any difference.
You can also keep an eye on this link to see how the DNS propagates around the globe. Based on that it looks like the process is complete.
-
That’s really weird, because it doesn’t work for me (with cleared cache on Chrome and Firefox). I will just wait then.

I’ve updated my DNS to Google DNS and it works! Thank you for help. BTW: I have >1600 posts on my site, but sitemap has only 1000… How can I increase this number? I think it has an impact on SEO.
-
The sitemap is limited to the 1000 most recent posts. This cannot be changed.
The impact on SEO should be minimal, as search engines prefer more recent content in any case. Not having the older posts in the sitemap also don’t prevent them from being indexed, so they can still be found via online searches.

This might help:
Web crawlers usually discover pages from links within the site and from other sites. Sitemaps supplement this data to allow crawlers that support Sitemaps to pick up all URLs in the Sitemap and learn about those URLs using the associated metadata. Using the Sitemap protocol does not guarantee that web pages are included in search engines, but provides hints for web crawlers to do a better job of crawling your site.
From https://www.sitemaps.org/index.html
So the sitemap just gives extra information to search engine crawlers, but it’s not actually a requirement for crawlers to index the content. It just makes it easier. If a page had been previously indexed, as should be the case with older posts on your site, it won’t be an issue at all.
