Second menu in webpage

    Hi,

In the theme of my blog you can only have one menu at the same time. I would like to have the different categories in one menu, and links to other pages (as an “About page”) in another menu. Why is this not possible? It seems impractical only to be able to have one menu on your webpage.

If you know how to have a second menu, please tell me :)

  • Hi @openfields09, I’m not sure I follow. Are you trying to make drop-down menu items? If so that’s doable:
    https://wordpress.com/support/menus/

If you’re trying to make more than one menu so it shows up in some other area of your page, it’s possible. You’d need to decide where you want it and how you want it to look, then add it through the site editor. We have a tutorial here:
    https://wordpress.com/support/full-site-editing/

If you need more help, can you share a few more details about where you want the menu?

    Thanks for the reply.

I am trying to add a second menu with links to different pages like an “About page”. I would like to have the categories at the top like I have, and on the right side of the blog I would like to have links to the different sites (not like a drop-down menu).

When trying to add a second menu I only have to places to place the new menu, “Privary navigation” and “Social navigation”. The categories at the top have Primary navigation as placement, and if I place the second menu at Social navigation it just doesn’t show on the web page (blog).
I can only find these two placements, and have tried different themes and all of them were the same.

    Maybe I am missing something?

    Thanks again!

When I try to add the new menu via what I think is the Template editor (like in this guide: https://wordpress.com/support/templates/#add-a-custom-menu) there is no editable space at the right side of the blog, for a new menu.

  • Hi there,

Is it possible you are trying to add a “sidebar” to the right of your current content?

Your theme uses a single-column layout by default, but you can add a sidebar by following the steps here: https://wordpress.com/support/add-a-sidebar/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Yes, that helps. It took some trying, but now I think I understand the Site Editor pretty good.

    Thanks for your reply.
