secondary menu removed but can't use blank area

One more thing I’m not sure I understand. When I enable the followers to Post & Pages on my website, will my members automatically get new post & pages by email or will they need to sign up to be followers to receive these emails?

I see you have your Authors Post page set as your Posts Page at Customize > Static Front page.
Do I need these checked?

SharingThose settings are for your Syndicated Feed (RSS feed) and do not affect the main blog posts on your site as your visitors will see them. If you wish to turn on or turn off post details, you can do that in Franklin at Customize > Content Options. You can choose to show only excerpts, and can also choose to show or hide categories, tags, date and author. In addition, there are settings for Featured images.
What you may want to do would be to add each author’s archive link under Authors Post in the main menu as submenu items. That way visitors could see the posts from a specific author.
If someone signs up to follow your site, they will get email notifications whenever a new post is published by any author, yourself included.

How would I do that?

1. Do you mean that after an Author creates a post that I manually place it under the Category,Authors Post as a sub menu or is there another way of it automatically being placed there?
>As an alternative to a posts page, and depending on how many authors you end up with, you many want to add an “Author” tab in the top navigation and then you can add custom submenu links to that menu for each author’s archive page. The URL would look something like this example where “themedemos” is their username, or their display name if they have set something different at Users > My Profile.
https://1961mhs.wordpress.com/author/themedemos/<2. I have the Author’s User Name added to the navigational ‘Authors Post’ tab & when you hover over ‘Authors Post’ in the top menu I see all the list of User Names with,
https://1961mhs.wordpress.com/author/themedemos/. Did I do that right? I think it is too confusing to see each User Name in that list. If I remove the list of names in the navigational tab will the User Name still appear at the bottom of the ‘Authors Post’ page? -
What you would do to put an author archive link in the menu is to add a Custom Link to the menu, and then the link you would add to that custom menu would be like this for your author archive page:
https://1961mhs.wordpress.com/author/mhs1961/
Look at this image, and see where it says, Custom Link: https://en-support.files.wordpress.com/2017/04/menu05.png” ?
That is where you would add the custom links to the author archives. You would then place them under the Authors Post menu item as submenu items. -
I have located the Custom Link in the menu area but I still don’t understand the procedure. Are you saying I will need to manually put each Author’s post as a sub menu under the Authors Post page after each classmate Author has published their post? Or creating the Custom Link will automatically put each Author’s post in the submenu under the Authors Post page for me after a classmate Author has published their post?

Now will that Author be able to click on his User Name & add his post & publish it?

Are you saying I will need to manually put each Author’s post as a sub menu under the Authors Post page after each classmate Author has published their post?
No, the author archive will list all posts by a single author with the newest at the top of that page. This link will show all posts you make: https://1961mhs.wordpress.com/author/mhs1961/. You do not need to put the links to the posts in the submenu, only the link to the author’s archive page.
OK, I placed a submenu User Name Author under the Authors Post page. Now will that Author be able to click on his User Name & add his post & publish it?
That link to the author archive is for your visitors so that they can see a listing of all posts made by a single author. To write posts, after they are logged in, the author will have to go to My Sites > Blog Posts > Add to add a new post, just like you do when you write posts. The posts they write and publish, will automatically show up in their author archive for visitors to look through and read.

OK, I put 2 User Names under Authors Post page but my blog post does not show up under my User Name. What did I do wrong?

OK, I think I have it. Please check & see if I have the User Name Author archive done correctly. It seems to be working.
( I deleted my earlier post after coping it & added a new post with the info pasted in it and it shows up in my User Name Author archive page.) -
I don’t know if I did the User Name Author archive right. When I clicked on someones elses User Name in the submenu under the Authors Post page, it took me to my posted blog page. Please check what I did wrong.

I’m so close to completing my website. This seems to be my last issue in getting the User Name Authors archive submenu working right. Why would I be sent back to my own Author’s post archive when I click on any one of the other User Name Author’s post that I have listed as a submenu under the Authors Post page in my menu? Shouldn’t a blank page pop up for a User Name Author’s archive post that has not been published yet? What did I do wrong?

Could you provide link to a problematic author archive, and let me know the post titles that shouldn’t be displayed in that archive, so I can take a look.
-
I would appreciate your help as I am so close to completing my website.
How do I provide you with a link to the problematic author archive? Plus, my website is private & I don’t want everyone to have a link to it.To make an submenu archive list of Authors post in my menu under the Authors Post page in the menu
the WordPress Happiness Engineer thesacredpath had told me to go to Customizer & in the menu under Custom Links add the URL https://1961mhs.wordpress.com/author/mhs1961/ . In the Link Text I put each Author’s User Name. It looks right in the menu but when I click on my User Name, my post pops up. When I click on any other Author’s User Name in the submenu my post still pops up. The other Author’s have not published a post.
Shouldn’t a blank page pop up for them? -
How do I provide you with a link to the problematic author archive?
You can copy-paste the URL (web address) from the browser’s address bar and paste it here.
Plus, my website is private & I don’t want everyone to have a link to it.
That’s OK – only WordPress.com staff like me can view your site when it’s private. Right now no one else can see it unless you’ve specifically added them as a user to your site.
It looks right in the menu but when I click on my User Name, my post pops up.
I took a look at your menu item called “Authors post” – all your sub-menu items there are linking to this one author archive page – https://1961mhs.wordpress.com/author/mhs1961/
If you want each author’s name to link to their own archive page, you need to edit your menu and change all the links.
To do that, open your Customizer and go into the Menus panel. Click the “HOME” menu to open it. Scroll down until you find the “Authors post” section.
If you open each author’s menu item, you see how every URL field is set to
http://1961mhs.wordpress.com/author/mhs1961? You’ll need to change each link to point to each specific author. For example, if you open cecilbezoni’s menu item, the URL says
http://1961mhs.wordpress.com/author/mhs1961– it should sayhttp://1961mhs.wordpress.com/author/cecilbezoniinstead, to reach her archive page.Shouldn’t a blank page pop up for them?
Right, exactly. If you visit http://1961mhs.wordpress.com/author/cecilbezoni you’ll see that it does say “Nothing Found” since she hasn’t published any posts yet.
Once you go through and update the URLs for each author, click Save & Publish at the top of your Customizer. The links to each author archive should work correctly once you’ve finished updating them all.
Let me know how it goes!

OK, thanks so much, it worked & I’m in the process of changing each User Name to the end of the URL. One question though, when I changed my User Name to the end of the URL it gave me a Oops so I changed it back to the original URL. My question is that the Authors Post page is included at the bottom of my post page, should it be there & is it only visible to me?

I’m not sure what you’re referring to – could you copy-paste a link to the “post page” you’re referring to so I can take a look?
-
OK, I have changed all the URL’s in the submenu archive. Will it be a problem that I changed the User Names in the Link Text area to included capital letters instead of the original all small letters?
Also, if an Author changes their User Name at profile do I need to make any changes to the Custom Link URL?

No, that’s fine. The Menu label can be anything you like, it doesn’t have to match the person’s username at all.
Also, if an Author changes their User Name at profile do I need to make any changes to the Custom Link URL?
Yes, you will have to change the link manually, it won’t change automatically.
