Secure Blog with username and password

I would like to ask if we can have a secure blog where the visitors can have access to the internal blog by signing in and creating an account with us. By using their username and password they can access our blog. I know that we can create individual passwords for certain pages or posts but I would like to have only one page available for public with login information. Then as members will be granted access login information then they can see further what we have on this blog?

I also would like to see if we can send blog email notifications for members of the blog.

I currently have an account with squarespace would I be able to switch easily since I have some members on my account with squarespace?

would be able to upload pictures, videos and so on?

    Thanks,
    Issa Haddad

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Easy: set the blog to Private, and then you can send Invitations to people. You cannot allow the general public in this way, even with a sign-in, though. What you could do is create one blog with just one, static page, and that being a “comment here and we will email you an invitation” message. Then you do that and give them an invitation to the other, private blog.

You can do it with an independent blog hosted elsewhere using software from WP.org though.

Users cannot upload pictures and content. AUTHORs can. So invite them as Authors.

Raincoaster – Along these same lines, can you set up a individual user-name and password for each person you send an invitation to or is it a one username/password serves all. New to WordPress so pls excuse my lack of information.

Thanks in advance for your help.

For that, you’d have a regular Private blog and Invite them by email. I don’t see why you’d set it all up for them.

Also one other question…would like to send an invitation to myself (at another completely separate e-mail address not associated with WordPress in any way). I want to do this so I can see exactly what a person would see /experience if I send them an invitation and what their user experience would be. I tried to send an invitation to myself at a different e-mail address but when I tried to activate it, I get the following msg: Whoops, you can’t use an activation key you’ve created for someone else.

Is there a way that I can invite myself using another e-mail address that is not associated with the administration of my blog?

    Thanks Michel

Just go the the invite with an email and put in the other email – then when you get the email just make sure you are logged out of your current account.

Thank You. Once you log out of your admin account it works.

    Thanks for your reply

Raincoaster – As I understand WordPress better I now see how its done. Each member of the private blog has their own user account on WordPress (and thus, their own individual password). When I asked my question I didn’t quite understand that but now I do so I agree – no need for me to set this up for them – just send them the invite and let them create their own account.

    Appreciate your and auxclass’s response….
