Securing a WordPress website with a GoDaddy domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,
I just want to make sure I’m doing the proper steps. I have secured thegraffiticrimes.com through GoDaddy and it appears I have secured a free trial name here of thegraffiticrimes.wordpress.com (???) I’d like to have our website as thegraffiticrimes.com (without the word press) – Do I upgrade? Just want to make sure I know what I’m doing (which I clearly do not!) before I pay for anything.

    Thanks so much!

    Hi thegraffiticrimes,

You are indeed able to map the domain that you bought from GoDaddy to your WordPress.com site! In order to do so, you need to upgrade to on of our plans:
    https://wordpress.com/pricing/
The Personal Plan comes with the option for a custom domain name.

    1. Go to the Domains page and click Add Domain.
Then click the Upgrade button nest to “Already own a domain”.
Enter the domain you’d like to map and click the blue Add button.
    2. Update your DNS Settings with domain provider. Point the domains name servers to
      NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
      NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
      NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

Here are the instructions for GoDaddy.

Full instructions can be found here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

    I hope that helps! :-)
