Security & hosting

I’m sorry if this question has been asked before:
Can you edit CSS and/or insert scripts (e.g. javascript) on the blog if it’s hosted on a different website/personal domain? Of course, the blog would be using a WP theme.
I know you can’t when it’s hosted on wordpress… but… I’m just wondering, is there a way around this part of security?

If your blog is hosted outside of WordPress.com you can have all the javascript and such you want. Check it out at WordPress.org.

Agreed. Since wp.com is a shared resource setup, if a hacker was to gain access via a Javascript to the files, they have access to the entire install and that would put all 500k blogs at risk.

If you grab a copy of the wp files, find yourself a host, and set up your own blog, they would only gain access to your own blog. Of course you would have the ability to place your own Javascripts so a hacked script wouldn’t come into play. At least I hope not. :)
