When I am transferring from wordpress to facebook it is telling me and anyone that tries to access that it wordpress is potentially a malicious link. Never had this problem before. What is going on?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I don’t understand what you’re saying. How are you “transferring” from WordPress.com to Facebook? There is no way to transfer content between the two platforms.

What is the exact error message you’re seeing, and can you please paste the link for me that is giving you that error?

When I “share” from WordPress to Facebook, the following message shows up ” Possible problem with this link: https://smokingmule.wordpress.com may be malicious.”

  • I’ve checked the SSL certificate on your site, and it’s working as it should, so this looks like an error on Facebook’s end. In the pop-up window where they say the link is insecure, click the “let us know” link to contact their support and report this to them as a false positive.

Yes, it appears you are correct. It is a Facebook glitch. It shared to Google + without a problem. Unfortunately I do not see a ” let us know” in the pop-up window, only the content I described. It does give the option to ” follow link” and then it does go to WordPress and posts effectively. Unfortunately, many are deterred by the warning and do not follow through.

  • Strange.

This is what I see if I try to share a link from your site:

    https://cloudup.com/cTdpaPu41xG

I’ve reported it as a false positive now, so let’s see if that helps, but I’m sure it would be helpful if you can get other people to report it as well if they see that option.

No, that is not the one, much more compact and contained what I identified. Thank you for your cooperation, I like using WordPress as it is quite facile for blogging. Let’s see how Facebook responds.

Odd-I just test shared a post from http://smokingmule.wordpress.com/ to FB and didn’t encounter any errors at all. I wasn’t logged in to FB first (if that makes any difference).

Just tried to send again, and this time got the cloudup.com message you noted above, where one must enter the captcha. Very strange for sure. And again, I started using your site last Sept., and only one minor glitch for the whole year; now this.

My bad, sorry. That was before I click post to FB. When I tried, I also got the error message, which seems to be looking for a http and not https link. Reported it as well.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Staff assistance. :)

Okay, we seem to be on the same page now, so to speak. I believe I also switched to an html format to see if that would help and that didn’t matter either way. So there is something in their screening mechanism that is jamming it. For no good reason, there is nothing incendiary in my shares, just silly headlines and sports comments.

  • @justjennifer’s comment that FB was looking for a http link gave me an idea and I ran your site’s URL through Facebook’s debugger. After doing that I tried posting the link again and it went through without any warnings. Can you please try again on your end and let me know if it’s still giving you a warning?

Hi, ran it through again later last night and now it seems fine. Thanks to you and Jennifer for your prompt response.

  • Thanks for confirming it’s working now :)
