  Hi, we are looking to upgrade the website to include a paypal button. Do I need to purchase an ssl certificate or add https in some way?

  Hi there,

  You don’t need to manually add HTTPS or purchase an SSL certificate if all you’ll add is a ‘Pay with’ button that redirects to PayPal.

  WordPress.com subdomains (part of the free plan) already include SSL encryption – while custom domains (part of the paid offering) includes it too thanks to the Let’s Encrypt initiative. You can read more about this in the blog post here :
