Security Alert – Have I Been Hacked?

  Hello,

  I received a message from someone attempting to view my site that not only said “this connection is not private” but also that “this website may be impersonating http://www.darksideofthespoonie.wordpress.com to steal your personal or financial information. You should go back to the previous page”.

  I was under the impression that WordPress was very difficult to hack. I have not renewed my paid membership yet, is that why I am now having security concerns with my site?

  Hi –

  Is this an active follower of the site? It’d be great to have them post here so I can check out their account.

  They could have some browser extension or security thing in place running interference.

  I am able to load your site in multiple browsers on my Mac OS with out any trouble at all.

  The best security action is prevention. Please make sure you have 2 factor authorization enabled on both your WordPress.com and email accounts. See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/security/two-step-authentication/

  Oh, double check if they can access the site with this direct link:

  https://darksideofthespoonie.wordpress.com/

  The www is not needed.

  Notice that my link is also https not just http which would be another cause of that notification.
