Security alert pop-up
-
One of my readers reports getting this message when he tries to access the site:
“There is a problem with this website’s security certificate. The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website’s address. Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server. We recommend that you close this webpage and do not continue to this website. “
I also have noticed similar type “security alert” messages when I preview posts I am editing or about to publish. Why is this happening? It will basically kill my readership.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Richard.
It seems we had some problems with this feature this past week.
Would you mind trying to log out, clear your cache, and log back in to see if the problem is no longer present?
Are you linking your users to the “https” version of your site? Take a look and see if you are using http://richardedmondson.net/ as a link, instead of any https:// variation.
If the problem persists, let me know and we’ll see why your case is not solved.

I cleared my cache and I am not seeing the security alerts, however, apparently my reader is still seeing them. He posted a second comment about it. Could be, I guess, the problem is in his own browser?

Hey Richard.
That might indeed be the problem, you can suggest to him the same I suggested to you about the difference between https and http. And suggest a log out + browser restart + log in into WordPress.com.
These warnings are usually false positives. Attacks based on false identity information are possible, but hard to accomplish, and even harder on a any scale greater than 1 single user, or 1 single network like an office.
No need to worry about it, unless you are seeing it yourself frequently, for a long time.
Happy blogging!
