Security error message
-
I put a link to my WordPress page ( https://epsteinstohaiti.wordpress.com) on my Facebook group, but every time the link is clicked, it says ‘There are problems with the security certificate for this site’and won’t let you go to my blog. Really need it to work because we are in the middle of fundraising for our family to move to Haiti as missionaries!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Lauren!
I just tried going to your site and it seems to come up with no issues, so I’ve got a quick question that might help narrow down where that certificate error is coming from.
Do you know if it’s coming up for everybody who tries to get to your site through that Facebook link, or just some people?
If not everyone is affected, try having the people who are getting the error message double-check that the date and time on their computer are correct. If their date/time settings are off, it can cause false positives on their computer’s certificate checks.
If it seems to be everybody, have someone try to get to your blog by copy/pasting that address into their browser instead of clicking directly on it from the Facebook group; it may be that Facebook is automatically rerouting the link in a weird way that’s accidentally flagging the certificate as bad.
I’d also try removing the ‘s’ from the ‘https’ in the address you post to the group, so they get “http://epsteinstohaiti.wordpress.com” or even just plain “epsteinstohaiti.wordpress.com” instead of “https://epsteinstohaiti.wordpress.com” – the ‘s’ tells the browser that it’s the address for a secure website that you’ve logged into, so if your potential visitors don’t have WordPress accounts that they’re signed into, their browsers might be getting mixed signals about whether or not they have permission to view the site, and end up throwing the error message that way.
Best of luck with your fundraising and your mission trip!

I just wanted to say, I found this trying to research the same thing, and I noticed that your missionary web site and my site use the same theme. I thought this was interesting, especially after I have tried many things in attempts to solve this issue (changing all links to https or relative links “/…./image.jpg”
So I wonder if it is a theme issue. I may be wrong, but I noticed too that it seems to jump from a locked padlock to unlocked not until after loading the header image.
WordPress, is this a theme issue? Can it be fixed? Is there something we can do to fix it if it is header or header image issue? Thanks!

laurenepharmd – I discovered and resolved the security issue with my site, and I think I know how to help you resolve it with yours. :)
For my site, it was a sharing option I added for StumbleUpon to show at the end of my blog posts. The image I used was not using https (but the http only) and thus, Firefox caught it. I had to save the image and upload it to my own wordpress.com media files and then relink it with the https (in fact, I did this with a few other images as well before finally getting them all and fixing the problem completely).
This solved the problem completely for me.
Here are some instructions that should help resolve the issue for your site:
On your site, I used Firefox’s Inspector on the Network tab (which is what I used to figure out what my site’s issue was as well). Firefox showed the insecure element: the image for your Cool Fundraising Bar.
I know it would be more time-consuming (such as when you have raised more support and need to change it again), but I recommend going to their site and saving the image to your computer, then uploading it to your wordpress.com site and relinking it with that URL which has the https instead. (To save time, you might be able to find another image and just use text for the amounts maybe?) This should solve the problem.
Let me know if this resolves the issue! :)
