“security guidelines” re a theme image
-
I sized an original image of my own to fit the prescribed pixel height/width for MistyLook, intending to replace the default image. But when I try to upload it I receive the message: “File type does not meet security guidelines. Try another.” But I can’t find an explanation as to what the security guidelines are. What are they?

There are certain filetypes that WP doesn’t allow for security reasons; they can be potentially damaging when there are so many blogs hosted on WP. There’s a list of the filetypes in the FAQs.
http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/07/what-filetypes-can-i-upload/What you were probably doing was trying to upload an unsupported filetype or a very large file; something like a .bmp isn’t supported. Try a .jpg or .gif and you shouldn’t have the same problems.
