Security Help With SMS Number

    Do I need a SMS Number if I have a backup Recovery E-mail? Do I need a 2 step Authentication if I don’t have a mobile device?

    Hi there,

    Two-step authentication has nothing to do with your account recovery email. The account recovery email is a second email where we can send a password reset link should you ever get locked out of your account.

    Two-step authentication, on the other hand, is a way to prevent someone else from gaining access to your account, even if they somehow know your password, as they’ll also need to enter a code from your phone to get access.

    You don’t have to enable two-step authentication, but we recommend you do, not only on WordPress.com but on any online account that supports it, and at the very least on your email.
