Security of WordPress.com developed site vs. one on some other server
-
I’d like to implement WP. I am a small part of a large Corporation and our IT team wants to understand the WP security process in more depth. There is no direct contact information so I’m not sure where to go.
-
You’re going to be more secure, MUCH more secure, here, but less flexible.
We don’t allow javascript. We don’t allow iframes. We don’t allow raw flash embeds, or log-in or contact forms subject to SQL injection vulnerability. We don’t allow users to add external themes (which might harbour malware) or plugins. We are basically DDoS proof.
If that makes no sense to you, it will make sense to the IT team.

Oh and staff take care of keeping all software updated to the latest version, so you don’t have to worry about that.
-
also such small & minor companies like Time & CNN are hosted here for some of their web content

Thanks raincoaster! Could we use an iframe to display the blog content on our website?
auxclass, I am well aware of the other big brands that use WordPress. Do they host with WP too though?
-
the ones I mentioned are hosted on WordPress.COM with the VIP program – many large news and media companies are hosted on WordPress.COM
-
The VIP are on the same servers as I am – yes the VIP is much more expensive – but nice to know that I have the same tech folks watching over my site as the big boys have
