Security question

Apologies for appearing dense with this question but I’m a little confused from the WP help pages.

I have noticed that my site doesn’t say “Secure” in the address bar like it does for my fellow WP bloggers. Is this because I am on the free plan? Plus when I clicked the update security link in my dashboard it says “No security configuration is required.”

If this is so, why don’t I have the green “Secure” notifier in my URL bar?

    Thanks in advance.

All sites hosted by wordpress.COM are SSL sites. Read HTTPS and SSL https://en.support.wordpress.com/https-ssl/

Yes, I read that but it doesn’t explain why I don’t have the green padlock… :-/

  • Hi there,

The SSL certificate on your site is working as it should, but I see you have an image in your sidebar – black flag TV – that’s embedded from a non-https source. That prevents the green padlock from showing, and some browsers will show a mixed content on non-secure content warning, which simply means that while your site is served over https, there are certain elements on the page that can’t be served over https.

If you remove that image, or otherwise upload it to the media library and embed it from there instead of hotlinking like you do at the moment, your site should show as fully secure.

    Thanks Kokkieh!

I removed that particular image/widget and tried to find as many hotlinked images as possible but there is still one or more eluding me. What is the best way to find out which images are causing the problem?

    Cheers!

Actually don’t worry. I found the offending image and now have the padlock! :-)

Thanks again for the advice kokkieh – it was a great help! :-D

  • Glad I could help :)
