Security warnings when visiting the site
-
Got a few visitors sending me information that visiting my site throws up security warnings even when using https. Not sure what the issue is, is there something I can do? The site’s about games so not sure what the problem can be there…
Thanks!

I’ve never seen anything like it, but I’m experiencing that issue too…I’ve tagged WordPress.com staff to see what’s going on and if they can help.

Hi there,
I don’t see anything wrong with it. Can you please ask your visitors for the exact error message, and if possible to provide us with a screenshot?
-
Hi there, no WordPressdotcom site uses www in the site address. Is it possible that is the address that they are trying to access?
-
Hey – I have been adding www when linking on Twitter and such, can this be the cause of the problem? Here is a link to a screenshot, can’t find a way to link directly here https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qb4qp1WGn8JkJLj_GJtzexHQui_anLaT/view?usp=drivesdk

Likely. As I mentioned above, there is no www in any WordPressdotcom site address.
Here’s what I see when visiting https://www.historianon.wordpress.com/

As @justjennifer correctly pointed out (thanks for noticing it!), it’s not correct to add www to a .wordpress.com address (nor it is possible).
Please use the correct URL for your site:

Dear Staff,
I see I have tested on what @historianon is talking about,
It seems issue only when you’re using free plan, and if it’s on a custom domain with a plan there is no issue for that.
I have seen the other sites which are not using .wordpress.com (free plan) and added “www” then it won’t show the warning messages. When I visit: https://www.vishalmukadam.wordpress.com it shows the warning,
and but when I visit https://www.doctrpal.com then it doesn’t show the error message.I also agree that WordPress.com does not use www version as @justjennifer said.
It should automatically take to non “www” version of WordPress.comThanks!
-
Dear Staff,
Just to summarize the issue:
If your website is on the free version of WordPress.com the site it is not re-directing to non “www” version, but if you are using a Plan then it automatically redirects to non “www” version, that’s it.When I visit: https://www.vishalmukadam.wordpress.com it shows the warning, it should be redirected to https://vishalmukadam.wordpress.com
, but when I visit https://www.doctrpal.com then it doesn’t show the error message
it automatically re-directs to https://doctrpal.comHoping this will help to figure out the issue. Thanks!

Thanks for noticing the issue and informing us, hope this will be fixed soon.

Hi there,
Just to clarify, this is how it’s supposed to work, and there’s nothing to fix.
http://example.wordpress.com, http://www.example.wordpress.com, and https://example.wordpress.com will all redirect to https://example.wordpress.com if you type them in a browser.
https://www.example.wordpress.com will always give an error.
This is due to the way www and https redirects work on free WordPress.com subdomains.

Hey!
If you remove the “www.” when linking your site, that should fix it – that did it for me.
