  Can i access the source code of a theme io installed in the free edition of wordpress?

  Hi there,

  It is not possible in WordPress.com to see the source code of a theme and modify it. However, if you want to customize your theme then WordPress.com provides out of the box functionality for the same.

  If you want to see the source code for your learning purpose then I’ll suggest to visit https://wordpress.org/themes/ link and search and download your theme.

  Hi @nostalgiafortheinfinite, to clarify:

  On WordPress.com, with a free site, you can generally download the source code of a free theme.

  You just can’t upload a modified version or child theme for free here, since we are managing security of the installation for you.

  If you are managing your own installation at another host, you can view source and modify themes as you’d like (though you will want to use child themes.)

  Also, if you were after a specific modification with at theme, we have that feature built in here already.

  Apparently, this is not possible in the free release of wordpress.

  It is absolutely free in the software that you install on your own server and maintain on your own.

  It is not free in the service here at WordPress.com, because we would have to maintain it for you.
