Seeing Site Cannot Be Accessed
-
Hi, I just re-purchased my domain after accidentally deleting it. I am now seeing a “site cannot be accessed” message and a “forbidden 404” message when trying to access the site. I also want to switch my hosting service from WordPress to Bluehost. Please help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there collectivelycarolina.com loads for me instantaneously.
You might need to hard refresh your browser window, but domain propagation can normally take up to 72 hours from changing the DNS. Keep clearing your browser cache and cookies if you don’t see it.
If you’ve just repurchased your domain from WordPressdotcom, you won’t be able to transfer the domain to a different registrar for 60 days (this is an ICANN regulation that cannot be waived), but you can still use your domain with a different webhost by changing the DNS pointers to your new hosting service. Here’s how you can do that. https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/
Hope that helps.

I just cleared my history, cache and cookies and am still seeing the forbidden error when I try to access the site. It says “you do not have permission to access this server.” Does that mean that it is still propagating? I am also still seeing “this site cannot be accessed” in my wordpress dashboard. Is there any other reason this would be happening?

Hello again, Here’s what I see when I visit your above site at collectivelycarolina.com (temp screenshot)
What is the exact site address that you are trying to access?
Let us know here and then let’s wait for Staff to respond to this thread as they can see your site settings.

My browser must have needed a minute to refresh settings – I can now see what you’re seeing! :) My last question is this – if I simply want to move my hosting from wordpress to Bluehost while leaving the domain registered at wordpress, how should I do so?

Great to hear you can see the site again now :)

collectivelycarolina.com can be pointed to Bluehost by changing the name servers (they will be able to provide this information):
https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/change-name-servers/
Content can be exported and then imported into your new site — it will need to remain on your WordPress.com site until the import has finished at the other end.
The process of moving from WordPress.com to a self hosted site is covered in more detail here:
Come back to me if you have any questions.

Hi, I can see the site in my dashboard now, but after changing the nameservers earlier this morning, I am still seeing a Forbidden 403 message when I try to view my site. Please help!

It sounds like when you point the site here at our servers it works, and when you point it at Bluehost, you get a 403 error. Have you reached out to your host?
If they say it’s a WordPress issue, you’ll actually want to head over to the resources at https://wordpress.org/support — which are specifically for self-managed installations, or “self-hosted” sites, even though Bluehost is technically your host. It means WordPress.com is not managing the hosting and installation for you.
Our forums here contain resources and support for sites hosted at WordPress.com.
I hope that helps!
