Seeking clarification on using the free .home.blog extension
-
What is the .home.blog extension? I’ve noticed that when I try to add a new blog to my WordPress account, the free domain option is now .home.blog, whereas my previous blogs all used the .wordpress.com extension. Is this a new feature, or has something changed with how WordPress assigns domains?
I’m curious if I can use this new .home.blog domain for my blog for free or if there’s any additional cost involved. I’m also wondering if I can still access my old .wordpress.com blogs and whether they’re affected by this change.

Yes that extension is free. Perhaps your first choice ending with .wordpress.com was already taken. A few years ago WordPress.com began offering a variety of free .blog extensions. They don’t seem to shout it too loud these days but to the best of my knowledge they are all still available and for free.
