    Hi everyone,

We’re in the process of planning a migration from Squarespace to WordPress.com, and I was hoping to connect with a WordPress team member or experienced community member for guidance.

Our website has been running on Squarespace for the past 7 years, and through sustained SEO efforts, we now receive over 3.5 million monthly visitors. We’ve built strong domain authority and top rankings, so naturally, we’re concerned about preserving our traffic, backlinks, and SEO performance during the transition.

    The main reasons we’re migrating:

    • We’ve outgrown Squarespace’s limitations for custom pages and user journeys
    • We need more flexibility for future growth and conversion-focused design

Before we begin, we would love to understand:

    • What steps does WordPress.com take to ensure no SEO loss or traffic drop?
    • Is there any guarantee or support assurance during migration?
    • Can we speak directly with a WordPress expert to assess our use case?

We’re considering the Business plan for this move and want to be confident before moving forward.

Any help, referrals, or experience shared would be deeply appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi @ariba6df52712b9,

It’s great to hear you’re considering WordPress.com for your next chapter — especially with such impressive traffic and SEO work behind your current site.

You’re right to approach this migration thoughtfully, especially given your domain authority and visibility. While WordPress.com doesn’t offer in-depth SEO consulting, we do take SEO seriously, and we’ll ensure your migrated site is set up with best practices in mind — including redirects, clean permalinks, and fast-loading, mobile-friendly pages that search engines love.

The good news is that we currently offer a free migration service for sites moving from Squarespace self-hosted WordPress to WordPress.com — your live site remains online and unaffected during the process. Once the migration is complete, we’ll walk you through connecting your domain and launching your site.

    Here’s a quick overview:

    • A WordPress.com expert will personally review and handle your migration.
    • We’ll preserve your existing content structure and URLs as much as possible to protect SEO.
    • The migration usually takes 2–3 business days.
    • You’ll also receive 50% off your first year on the Business plan as part of the offer.

If that sounds like a good fit, you can request the free migration here:
    https://wordpress.com/support/request-a-free-migration/

And of course, if you have custom needs or questions about plugins, design tools, or specific SEO considerations, we’d be happy to help guide you further.

Let us know if you’d like to move forward or talk through any specific technical questions.

    Hi @josefhtest,

Thank you again for your detailed response and the support so far.

We’re preparing to move forward with the Commerce plan, as it best fits our long-term needs—including WooCommerce integration, gift cards, memberships, and more. Before we formally request the migration, I had a few important follow-up questions and clarifications we’d love help with:

Pre-Migration Consultation – Is it possible to speak directly with a WordPress.com expert (via call) before initiating the migration? Given our site scale and SEO history, we’d like to walk through key concerns and ensure nothing is missed in transition.

Developer Support & Custom Pages – We are a services-based business, and we’ll be designing a custom conversion journey in Figma. We’d like guidance on:

    • Where will developer help be required (custom logic, booking form edits, WooCommerce integration)?
    • Will your migration support include any plugin assistance, or is that fully handled on our side?

Memberships, Coupons & Active Users – We plan to transfer:

    • Active coupon codes
    • Existing memberships
    • And possibly, user accounts (emails, logins, passwords)

We understand some of this requires WooCommerce + plugins, but could you confirm:

    • Whether user login data (emails/passwords) can be migrated from Squarespace?
    • If not, what’s the best way to set up a secure password reset flow post-launch for existing customers?

Staging Environment & QA – Will the Commerce plan provide access to a staging or preview environment before going live? With 576+ pages and custom booking integrations, we’d really like to QA everything before making the switch public. Backups & Restore Options

Post-migration, how are backups handled on the Commerce plan?

    • Are daily backups included?
    • In case of a plugin conflict or data error, can we use a one-click rollback or request a restore?

Commerce Plan Pricing & SLA – We also wanted to check:

    • Are there any offers or promotions available for the Commerce plan at the moment?
    • Do you provide any Service Level Agreement (SLA) on response time or uptime for paid plans?

Please let us know what’s possible and how best to proceed. We’re excited to get started and want to make sure we have all the right support and tools in place for a smooth transition.

    Thanks again for your guidance!

    Best,
    Ariba

    Hi, @ariba6df52712b9!

Thanks so much for these details!

Our migration offer we mentioned is for migrating sites built on WordPress to WordPress.com. Since your site was built with Squarespace, your site and current needs will be best handled with one of our expert partner agencies. They’ll be able to set up a consultation call to go over the details of your site, how you have things set up currently, and build a proposal based on those details. In working with one of our partner agencies, you’ll work directly with developers who are experts in WordPress and you will be able to communicate directly with them throughout the process. You can get started with connecting with an agency that can help you with this migration here: Get started with a custom site development.

The other option would be for you to manually migrate, and we’re happy to offer some guidance there, such as getting started with WooCommerce, setting up your store, moving your content, etc. You can export your content from Squarespace and import it to your WordPress.com site, as outlined in our Import from Squarespace guide. For things like orders, customer information, products, gift cards, discounts, etc., those can also be exported as .csv files from Squarespace and uploaded to WooCommerce on your new site. Squarespace’s Commerce support pages offer guidance on how to export this data.

For the WordPress.com Commerce plan, you’ll automatically get access to Jetpack features, including Jetpack VaultPress, which creates backups for you automatically. You’ll have access to the backups from your dashboard so you can restore with one click anytime. With the plan, you’ll also have the ability to create a staging site so you can make changes without affecting your live site. Then, once you’re ready, you’ll be able to sync the staging site to replace the existing live site. This plan also gives you 24/7 priority support from our Happiness Engineers via chat and email, and we’re always happy to help. More details about the features offered on our Commerce plan can be found here: Commerce Plan.
