Sela – Header Image responsiveness

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!

Would like my header image to be responsive to mobile devices. Anyone know how I can save the file in photoshop to make this possible?

    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

    Hi there,

Sela was designed and built to adapt to devices of different sizes by default. With this in mind, your header image will be automatically cropped and resized to look good across devices.

As your header image will be cropped, it’s best to use an image that’s purely decorative or that can handle some sort of cropping. Images that contain text or detail that can’t be cropped aren’t recommended for the theme’s header area.

Let me know if that’s helpful! I’ll be happy to help with further questions, too.

    Thanks.

That doesn’t really help though because I’ve seen images with text be automatically resized between devices. These are on blogs using the same theme as I am –

    alittlebookworld.wordpress.com
    babygotpaperback.net

Both use the Sela theme, have header images with text, and have the images automatically resized for mobile devices.

Does anyone know how this is done?

    Hi @garrichaverst,

The first site you noted, alittlebookworld.wordpress.com, has text positioned in the very centre of its header image, with a lot of space surrounding it. As there is so much space surrounding the text, cropping does not stop it from being readable on smaller devices.

The second site, babygotpaperback.net, does not have any text on its header image. Instead, the text you see there has been set via the Site Identity panel of the WordPress.com Customizer. If you navigate to that panel, you will find a Site Title and Tagline field in addition to a checkbox to “Display Site Title and Tagline.”

Let me know if that extra information helps out!
