    Hi Bethany,

    You can fix that issue by reducing the width of the site title in the site header image to perhaps 80% of its present width. You can experiment with different widths until you find one sufficiently small enough so that it will fully display on smaller screens.

    I’d also suggest that you add a site title to the site, in order to help search engines find and identify your page and posts. The site title may be hidden by unchecking the box labeled “Display Site Title and Tagline” at Customize > Site Identity.

    “pages and posts”

  • Hi Bethany,

    Sela is designed to use a decorative header which isn’t sensitive to cropping.
    If you need a theme that uses the full header image even at mobile size, you might try the Karuna theme. That way your header image text won’t be cut off on mobile.

    @dcoleonline,

    Hi. My tests on the private test site https://sbstage3.wordpress.com/ indicate that reducing the site title portion of the site header image, not the whole image, to about 80% of the original width might just barely allow it to fit on a mobile device screen. I created the 80% image by cropping, reducing, and pasting the site title portion of the image with Microsoft Paint. 75%, or even 78%, might yield a better fit.

  • @musicdoc1: Yep if the text is small enough, it will fit on mobile, but that also means it takes up very little room on laptops/desktops. It is a viable option as long as it works for the site owner.

    In this case it may work, because I created it on a desktop and the title seems plenty large enough after reduction to 80%. I think it may fit pretty well on mobile devices at that percentage, though I was unable to test it due to a problem with my phone.

    @bethanyballiphotography is welcome to try the image I’ve created. I’ve temporarily added it to the media library of my primary site, here: https://songbook1.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/bethany-balli-site-hdr1-80p-title-1a.jpg. The quality has been improved from my earlier rushed attempt, though the title is still not perfectly centered. I could fix that with a bit more effort.
