Hi Jennifer,
The Sela theme has a few tricks for setting it up more like the Sela demo site. Here are the three big tips for setting up the front page:
- The featured area at the top of the page displays a full-width featured image and an overlay containing the page content. That featured image works best when it’s at least 1180 pixels wide.
- Below the featured area are three front-page widget areas, displayed side-by-side in columns. This is where you can get creative and use any of the available widgets to feature products or services, or showcase different parts of your website. On the theme demo this section is populated with text widgets, one in each front-page widget area.
- Below that is the Testimonial area, displaying two testimonials. To add a testimonial, go to Testimonials → Add New in your dashboard. You can change the order in which your testimonials are displayed by using the Order field of the Page Attributes module on the testimonial edit screen. If no testimonials are added, this section will not be displayed.
You can find that information plus more tips for setting up the theme like the demo site on the Sela theme page. If you have any questions about that, please let me know! :)

Thank you for your response!
I’m still missing something. When I try to follow your directions to add text widgets to my empty pages, my only options are in the ‘customize’ bar that pops up on the right hand side when I try to customize. There, ‘sidebar’ and ‘footer’ widgets are my only options, and I do not see a way to manipulate these to begin to look anything like the theme. They just appear in a list at the side or bottom of the page, not lined up in a horizontal trio like the demo offers.
I’d also like to learn to use the ‘grid’ page, which is an option on my admin page under ‘page attributes’, but when I choose and save that, the resulting page just has nothing more than title, coral-colored bar, and social media buttons…., and I do not find options to insert a grid like what is pictured in the Sela theme page.
What am I missing? I spent days searching for and learning some simple HTML to try to get my page to look something like theme before realizing that the theme was supposed to give me templates to work with beyond a coral-colored bar at the top.
I appreciate you time and assistance.

Hi Jennifer,

Depending on your browser’s screen size, you may need to scroll down in the customizer to see all of the widget areas. (The ones you need are the last three “Front Page Sidebar” areas.) Alternately, you can manage your site’s widgets under Appearance > Widgets in your site’s WP Admin dashboard.
I’d also like to learn to use the ‘grid’ page, which is an option on my admin page under ‘page attributes’
Sure! Grid pages automatically display child pages in a grid. (A child page is a page with the grid page set as its parent in the Page Attributes module.)
Since you have a page set up with the grid template already, all you need to do now is create new pages with the grid page as their parent page. Once those pages are published, they will appear in the grid on the grid page. You can also add featured images to those child pages, and the featured image will appear as the image in the grid.
Please let me know if you have any other questions about that!

Thank you for your help.
I’d like to have my grid page filled with images of book covers from click through links to Amazon. Is there a way to do this?

Hi Jennifer,
Rachel is out for a few days and so I am taking a look at some of her tickets. Sorry for the delay!
In regards to your question, I’m afraid that it can’t be done quite how you mentioned. The image of a book cover can be displayed (the best option is to download the image from amazon and upload it to your media library) by setting it as your Featured Image, but when someone clicks on that image it’s going to take them to the page which you created.
Once they’re on that page, you can link them over to Amazon, no problem. But making that initial link on the grid page go directly to Amazon isn’t possible I’m afraid.

Thank you for your help, amightywp. I was feeling abandoned :-)
I’ll try what you suggested.

Ha! No, not at all. Just running afoul of schedules. Again, sorry about that!
