  So, if I setup a front page to get the slider option, does that mean that it will just be a status front page with the slider and no posts below it, or can it have both?

  I hope this isn’t a silly question… But I’m clearly not savy when it comes to WordPress. Hehe

  Not a silly question. :)

  Moka’s setup lets you create a front page and then add options into it. The example page here:

  Uses the slider at the top, and for the next 3 rows displays the most recent posts.

  But you’re choice whether you want recent posts included on that front page or not. You choose what gets included by using the Theme Options and “Custom Front Page Widgets” described here:
