sela theme and featured images
-
My website is running sela theme, and I need NOT to show featured images in the post headers, but keep having them as featured. Any clue?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
Can you give an example of a posts with a featured image in the header? On the site https://cave223.wordpress.com/, I find a custom header on the front page (which is the posts page), and all posts, static pages, and archives pages.

Hi… thanks for the reply. I miss-typed the site the right one with the example is: https://garrafalivre.com.br/portfolio/colombiere/

Hi. Thanks for the correct address.
On the first page of the 2016 post archives page, https://garrafalivre.com.br/2016/, I find that 6 of the first 10 posts have featured images. Have you not assigned featured images to them? If not, then perhaps with certain post formats on the Sela theme a featured image is automatically created. If that is the case, I wasn’t aware of this issue. The blog page of the Sela demo, and some of its single posts, clearly demonstrate that featured images need not be displayed.

Hi, my point is after assigning a featured image to be shown only in the portfolio page, https://garrafalivre.com.br/produtores/ i dont want to show it on the header of the “detail” page https://garrafalivre.com.br/portfolio/colombiere/ . So I want to toggle off the featured image in the “detail” page, do you think that this is feasible?

Thanks for that information. Sorry about the delay. I’ve been trying to figure out how you’ve evidently used portfolio projects in a static page with the grid page template assigned. I haven’t seen that done before.
That’s the way child pages of a page with the grid page template behave on the Sela theme. I believe you might be able to hide the featured images from the child pages, but it will require CSS customization. See the Custom CSS support page. For two reasons, I’m going to call for staff attention:
1. I don’t know anything about CSS customization.
2. It’s very late here, and I’m about to retire for the evening. Good night. : -) -

Hi there,
after assigning a featured image to be shown only in the portfolio page, i dont want to show it on the header of the “detail” page
Sela is designed to show featured images at the top of single posts, pages and portfolio projects. This theme does not have an option to prevent the featured image from showing. You can hide it using custom CSS, but you’ll need the Premium Plan to do that.

Hi, thanks for your answer. I’ll look for a theme that can do it, or (maybe easier) accept this and let it as it is.

Off the top of my head I can’t think of any themes with a similar look to Sela that does not show featured images on single posts, but we do have themes that don’t do that. We don’t have a filter for that, though, as people usually look for it the other way around :)

@ kokkieh,
Sela is designed to show featured images at the top of single posts, pages and portfolio projects.
From the Sela demo
Single posts, with at least one image in the content, without a featured image at the top:
1. My Home Office Space
2. Weekend Recap
3. Travel Photography TipsSingle pages, with at least one image in the content, without a featured image at the top:
1. Grid Page
2. Image Alignment and StylesSingle projects without a featured image:
There is no portfolio on the Sela demo. One thing about the site https://garrafalivre.com.br/ that has me curious is that the site’s portfolio page includes featured images evidently not drawn from the projects themselves, but from the grid page that appears on the front page.
The front page itself is very interesting in that it by the way the grid items behave it appears to have either a portfolio page template or a grid page template assigned. However, the portfolio page template is not available on the Sela theme, so it would seem to be a grid page template. The problem with this is that the parent page of the grid items is the portfolio, which is an archives page.
I was unable to reproduce what cave223 has done in the case I’ve described on a page with the grid page template assigned. How do you make the parent page of a grid page template page the portfolio?!
@ kokkieh, @ cave223,
In the CSS Customization forum topic Sela: How to remove featured image from child page but keep for parent grid, thesacredpath has provided CSS code which he says will “hide the featured images on the individual pages but keep them on the grid page.”

It occurs to me now that perhaps the front page of https://garrafalivre.com.br/ has neither a grid page template nor a portfolio page template (not available on Sela), but is created by constructing a table.

Sorry guys, I’ve figured it out. The static page “Produtores,” which is assigned as the static front page has portfolio shortcode inserted into the content.
Sela is designed to show featured images at the top of single posts, pages and portfolio projects.
I understand now what you mean regarding single posts, and portfolio projects, but don’t know what you mean with respect to pages. It seems like featured images on the child pages of pages assigned to a grid page template would be the only relevant analogy to featured images on single posts and portfolio projects. In all other cases (wrt pages) that I can think of, one wouldn’t assign a featured image to the child page if one didn’t want it to appear.
-
Exactly , that’s what I did “The static page “Produtores,” which is assigned as the static front page has portfolio shortcode inserted into the content.”
And thanks:
“It seems like featured images on the child pages of pages assigned to a grid page template would be the only relevant analogy to featured images on single posts and portfolio projects. In all other cases (wrt pages) that I can think of, one wouldn’t assign a featured image to the child page if one didn’t want it to appear. “
this is a possible solution. I’ll try it.
Thanks a lot for all the reasoning and suggestions.

Although you’re question is presumably in reference to the same theme, the question is unrelated to the original issue of this topic, or to other issues discussed in trying to resolve the original issue. Please start a new thread, here: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1.

You’re welcome. The use of a grid page template might provide a helpful alternative, but be forewarned of that CSS customization will be required not only to hide featured images from the child pages, but also to increase the number of items in a grid from two, and to change aspects of the grid layout such as the dimensions of the images, the text color, etc. Compare the Sela demo Grid Page to your Produtores page, with the portfolio shortcode.
Also, you don’t have the option of assigning types and tags to a page as you may with a portfolio project.

You might want to check out some themes that have the portfolio page template option. For example, for both the Illustratr and Espied themes, the featured images assigned to projects do not appear at the top of the projects themselves. Their purpose is to form the grid or tile pattern of images that represent and link to the projects.
See, for instance, the Illustratr demo’s front page with the Portfolio Page Template assigned.
